LifeBy ElminaThis had to be what it felt to die. That was Leon Belmont's only thought as he lay on the battlefield, unable to move. The actual fight had moved to the other side of the plateau and the only ones here were those who weren't able to take part of it anymore. Leon prayed that most of his men were still standing; he also prayed that no one would see him lying here. The battle had not been won yet, and should any of them see him, it might have a negative effect on their morale. He wanted to laugh at that thought; that was something Mathias kept preaching about. He probably didn't have much time left, so it was pointless to start thinking about that. He couldn't keep himself from worrying though. He looked up in the sky, and saw that sun was hiding somewhere behind the thick clouds. Yet, he was sure he could see the warm light. His eyes wandered over to the side, and he looked at the mountains there, suddenly realizing he had not cared about the scenery at all before. He noticed it now, and it was beautiful. Dying isn't so bad in the end, he thought, a hint of a smile on his face. My life was in God's hands to begin with, and He shall have it now... It is for His glory that I lost here. He could hear a couple of horses nearby, but was unable to turn his head so he could've seen if it was the enemy or someone from his side. One of the horses came closer, and there was some other noise. "Leon!" He heard Mathias call him, and soon after the tactician was by his side. "Leon! Answer me!" "Leave me," Leon mumbled. "I'm... I can't... move..." Mathias wasn't listening, and instead worked on removing some of the younger knight's armor. Once he got the task done he studied Leon's wounds - and then slapped him. "Ouch," Leon hissed, taken by surprise. "What kind... of a thing is that... to do to a dying man? Mathias, you... could've at least..." "You will wish you had died once I get you back to the camp and cleaned up and taken care of," Mathias muttered as a reply. He drew Leon up so the younger man was sitting against him. "I'm quite sure you can move. About the only thing on you is a wound on your head, and that certainly doesn't seem fatal. It will probably keep you in bed for a day or two because of dizziness, but you're nowhere near dead. Yet." Leon simply closed his eyes and smiled.
END.
