The Misadventures of Soushi's Mixed-up FileChapter 7What was Akira's problem today, anyway? Certainly, the boy had quickly apologized, stared at Kazuki for a few seconds before stuttering, "I'll go take the trash out!" and running off - without actually taking anything with him. How strange. Sakura returned to the table where Kenji was sitting, put the file down to the side and picked up her drink. "What do you think that was about?" She pondered aloud, took a sip of her drink and put it back down on the table. "Who knows," Kenji commented. He also took a sip of his drink, and at the same time, his eyes wandered to the side and stopped at the file Sakura had brought in. Sakura could only stare at his following reaction in confusion as Kenji's eyes went wide, he spit out his drink and muttered something along the lines of, "Oh god, what is that thing doing here, he's going to kill me." "What are you talking about?" Sakura questioned. "That," Kenji managed after coughing a couple of times. "That... file," he whispered. "What?" Sakura picked it up. "What file? Hmm...?" She focused her eyes a little. "Unfortunately, it appears this is one of those cases where I have to perform another experiment or two," she read aloud. "Since based on this case alone, it is impossible to determine whether the biggest turn-on was the location, the possibility of getting caught, or - as commented by Kazuki - what seemed to be an impulsive act on my part." Kenji let his head drop on the table and covered it with his hands, and Sakura stared at the file for a little bit longer before she burst out laughing. "What's going on?" Canon, who was now occupying the table next to the two, asked. She raised her head from whatever work file she had with her and looked over at the pair at the other table. "Oh, this is just delicious," Sakura told her. She poked Kenji on the arm. "Not your file, I assume?" "Like hell it would be," Kenji mumbled. Canon gave Sakura a questioning look, and she turned around on her chair and waved the file in Canon's direction. "Want to take a look? Looks like an interesting little log, this one." She closed the current entry and opened the next one. "Date: 18/xx/2149," Canon read the file offered to her. She then went quiet and let her eyes browse through the entry. It was some kind of an analysis of several different locations around Tatsumiya Island, accompanied by times of the day and percentages of meeting other people while there. She gave Sakura a confused look. "It looks like a location list of some kind?" Sakura looked at the entry, shrugged and pointed at the lower part. "Read that." Canon turned her attention back to the file. "However, an experiment conducted today seems to indicate that I also need to include the so-called 'acting on impulse' factor in this," she read. "The test was performed by simply pressing Kazuki against the wall in an otherwise empty Alvis corridor and kissing him, and his reaction was to 1) respond to the kiss 2) take a hold of the hem of my uniform jacket 3) stutter an embarrassed but somehow adorable 'not here' once I broke away from him, and 4) look slightly disappointed at the realization that we were not going to continue further." "See?" Sakura commented. "What a juicy little log, this one." "Wh-what the..." Canon muttered with her face gaining a shade of pink. "Kazuki?" "Huh? What did Kazuki do now?" Maya's voice from the door questioned. She entered the cafe, earning a bit of a grin from Sakura. "Eh?" Kazuki, still in the kitchen, was not really reacting to the fact that his name had been called. Sakura ignored him in favor of Maya, a smirk on her face. "Oh ho ho, might this be yours then?" "Totally not," Kenji muttered, under his breath adding something about how a certain someone was going to think he brought this file here, and that he was a dead man because of this. "What is mine?" Maya asked, and the file was offered to her. She took it, casting an inquisitive look at Sakura. "I don't recall leaving any files here, and this doesn't really..." Sakura snickered. "Oh, just read it. Looks like Kazuki's been having some fun, and there are records of it." Maya looked to the side where Kazuki was drying a pan he had just washed, completely oblivious to the fact that he seemed to be the center of a conversation happening just a few meters away from him. She then looked at the file, noting that it was some kind of a log with a lot of dates. "Read it," Sakura encouraged her, and Maya shrugged and opened a random entry near the bottom. "Date: 09/xx/2150," the entry read. "Kazuki surprised me today by entering the shower with me. This itself is not a completely unpreceded action, but in this instance I didn't even notice when he came into my room (obviously, since I was in the shower) but suddenly he was there, naked, and was apparently determined to have me since he pressed me against the wall and--" "Great, isn't it?" Sakura said. Maya stared at her blankly, looked bothered for a short moment, then handed the file back and stated coolly, "Nope. Not mine." "Of course it isn't," Kenji groaned from behind them. "Can't you tell?" "Well, it is rather analytical, and..." Sakura started and looked in Kazuki's direction. "Oh. I see how it is." She got up and walked to the counter. "So, Kazuki," she said, drawing his attention from the dishes. "Is this real? Did this stuff actually happen?" "Huh?" Kazuki asked, and Sakura stuck the file in front of his face, too close for him to really see what it was. "Who would have thought," she commented. "You think you know your friends, and then it turns out one of them is a total closet pervert." "Who is?" Kazuki inquired, totally clueless about what was going on even though both Maya and Canon were now giving him this odd look. At that moment, the door was opened.
Whichever the case, he hurried his steps as he could see the lights from Rakuen ahead. There were people inside, but that didn't matter. All he wanted right now was to find out who had done the delivery, and where his damn file was. Just when he reached the door, he noted that Akira was standing nearby. The boy didn't notice him until he was only a meter away, but his reaction to seeing Soushi was nearly comical as he stared at Soushi for a second then literally jumped back and hid behind the corner. The whole island was a mess tonight, Soushi concluded as he opened the door and stepped in. The atmosphere inside seemed somehow tense; then Canon and Maya turned to look at him, and Kenji screamed and hid under the table. Soushi barely paid attention to this, however, as he saw something in Sakura's hand. He had finally located the file; it was right there. Too bad it was also being held in Kazuki's face, and Soushi blurted out the first words to come to his mind. "Don't read that!" |
