DevotionBy ElminaKletian loved it when the chapel was empty, or only had a couple of people beside him. Usually anyone who was there was concentrated on a prayer, and there were no sounds. No sounds, just the holy air around him and the peace the place brought him. He loved how he could sit there for hours and not be disturbed. If he had no duties and could spare the time, that was where he wanted to be. The library, although usually quiet and an excellent study environment, did not offer the same as a holy place did; the inner peace of a chapel was something beyond his understanding, and that was why he devoted himself to St. Ajora. He feared this devotion was not enough, and he wished to spend more time on worship. He had to take care of his duties first, though, and as much as he liked the silent chapel, following Lord Vormav's orders was also form of serving St. Ajora and his will. But should he let his mind wander even for a moment, he remembered that he was a sinner and could only try to repent for his crime. As simple as the crime was, he knew it was a mortal sin, and feared that St. Ajora would reject him when the day came. Because Kletian loved it when Rofel held him; a warm embrace that felt safe and took his mind off of duties, even if it was just for a moment. A moment of closeness that cleared his mind of everything, and even being in the chapel did not relax him like that. It was something he could not describe with words, as the feeling was beyond something he could understand. It seemed like it was almost the same feeling, the same kind of love he had for St. Ajora and his teachings, but how could he ever love someone like that? It was acceptable to feel love for those close to you, like family and friends, but this kind of love... The kind of joy that filled him because of that love was hard to understand. Why was it that he felt the same for Rofel as he felt for his beliefs? But he loved Rofel's quiet smile, and he loved the way the man looked at him. There was nothing special about it, but that smile was clearly one that was meant for only him, and it made Kletian feel comfortable. Rofel didn't smile like that when Lord Vormav was there; only for Kletian. And he realized that while the chapel gave him peace of mind, he would have chosen to be held by Rofel instead.
